Omar’s 600hp+ 997.2 PorscheTurbo
When we at Arabia Motors think about the Porsche 911, almost instantly the Turbo comes to mind. Since 1974, the Porsche 911 Turbo is considered as the spearhead of Zuffenhausen’s finest sports cars. The Turbo has always been the perfect blend of supercar performance with all the everyday usability of the Porsche 911. But every once in a while, you’ll find people like Mr. Omar Janahi who know what they want and find a way to extract even more performance out of a high-performance car... 600hp+ of performance to be exact. So we catch up with him and find out what made him build his unique 997.2 Turbo.
We know for a fact that this is not your first build. Can you tell our readers about your past projects?
That’s right. This actually is my 8th project car. My first car was a suped-up Ford Crown Cobra which I had purchased directly from Montana Motors in 2005. After that, I’ve had a fleet of different types of cars starting with a 1000hp Corvette C6, then a 1990 Chevy Silverado, a 2016 Lexus RCF, a 2001 Mitsubishi Evo 6.5 Tommi Makinen Edition and a 2002 Camaro SS which I’m currently working on as Drag Race car.
Wow! That’s a broad spectrum of cars you’ve had. So what got into a Porsche?
To be honest, I was a bit nervous before I bought my 997.2. But a friend of mine owned one and convinced me that it would be a great car to drive since its got excellent pedigree and can be modded to be an absolute monster on road and on track. Another thing that got me into Porsches was its timeless looks.
What inspired you to build your car this way?
When it comes to any of my cars, I can’t help myself but fiddle with it. I believe that every petrolhead should have a unique car that matches their personality. In my case, my personality is based on high-performance, so all my cars need to be fast, wild, and untamable!
What makes your Porsche different from the rest here?
I can’t speak for the rest, but as I mentioned, it’s got the performance that many Porsche Turbo’s here don’t. Most people buy a Porsche Turbo and leave it stock since it’s got enough power, but I knew I could extract more out of it.
What are some of the smaller details on your car that an untrained eye might miss?
It has to be the performance and its stance.
What do you enjoy most about your car?
The looks and the sound of the turbos spooling. When the boost kicks in at full-throttle, it turns into an absolute beast and just wants to go sideways in first and second gear, but at the same time, it’s super comfy and luxurious which is just simply amazing.
Are you planning on making any further modifications to your car?
Yes, I have just placed an order on some aftermarket parts to dial up the power to 750-horsepower and a Tech-Art aero kit to keeps its looks aggressive yet straightforward at the same time. Hopefully, if all goes according to plan, it should be ready by next season.
Any last words you would like to give out?
I want to thank my family for bearing with me with all my project cars, it’s my passion and to have a supportive family to back that passion means the world to me. I would also like to thank Kanoo Performance for taking care of my car through its build process. I would also like to thank Sayed Ahmed from STurbo Garage for fabricating my custom exhaust system and Al Noami Auto Shine for keeping my car super-clean and shiny. Lastly, I’d like to thank Arabia Motors for giving me the opportunity to feature my build.
